I wanted to introduce myself so you had a face to the name and see what I’m all about! My name is Talia Fickel and I am 25 years old. Born and raised in Omaha, NE and have no plans of ever leaving (I could never leave my mom, we are attached at the hip!) I would be nothing without my family. My parents TJ and Regina (we call her the OG Regina George) are the most loving people in the world who would do anything for me. I have one younger brother Logan who is the coolest, most determined person I know. He’s also an awesome baseball player at Ohio University. #gobobcats

I am a recent newlywed as of November 3rd, 2017 to the love of my life Joel and couldn’t be happier. Joel and I went to high school together and had some of the same classes (I was a grade older). We never hung out or talked to each other, until one day six years later, he Facebook messaged me one simple line, “Hey! I just wanted to let you know I think you’re absolutely gorgeous.” I didn’t think anything of it and didn’t really remember him, so I just let it go. A week later I figured I’ve given him a shot and messaged back with “hey” and I slowly started to remember him from school. Our first date was at a Mexican restaurant for Margarita Monday and after, we went to see the movie Minions. We spent every day together after that and the rest is history!
Now quick onto work life. I work for a pretty awesome company in the sports industry. We are changing the way athletes and fans experience sporting events with LED multipurpose scoreboard displays and revolutionary software to bring that professional sports atmosphere to the high school and college level. My love for sports and marketing has made this job so enjoyable and the competitive drive in me has helped to shape my professional self and my career.
Alright, let’s get to the good stuff and how The Velvet Blonde was created!
I’ve always had an eye for fashion and styling outfits for friends and family. My love affair with fashion really started when I was 14 years old. I would buy so many fashion magazines at the store just to see the beautiful gowns and trendiest handbags. On a family vacation, we went to LA, and I remember walking down Rodeo Drive and just being in awe seeing all the designer stores I had only read about in magazines. Fendi was the first store I saw and immediately went into. I went right to the center of the store looking for the recent collection that was fresh off New York Fashion Week and had to try on the most expensive piece of clothing they had (just to say I did!)
I continued to follow all things fashion and fell in love with the idea seeing the clothes and handbags as collectibles. I wanted to grow my fashion collection and have worked hard to achieve that goal. It’s still going (Joel’s not too thrilled about it, and our closet space shows it ha!) This entailed many envelopes that would be labeled with exactly what I was saving for in bold sharpie letters, which I still do to this today!
I know you’re thinking, there are so many fashion and style bloggers out there. Yeah yeah, but I have more to share than the latest and most fabulous outfits! I wanted to be as real as possible and write about what I love while staying true to myself. I see this as a style and personal journal all in one! So as I always say “GET EXCITED PEOPLE!” There’s stylish outfits, cool product reviews, and real thoughts and adventures coming to The Velvet Blonde.
