Wow! Where do I begin?! These past two weeks have been a whirlwind! The first week of September I was in NYC for New York Fashion Week. It was my first time being in New York and I’m already counting down the days until I’m back! We landed in LGA on Friday morning which was perfect, since we still had the whole day to explore! PRO TIP: I highly recommend downloading the Uber app! Hailing a cab from the airport to our hotel was tough with all the construction and expensive!

I was so excited to have my hair done at Drybar Flatiron. This was my first appointment and figured having my hair done on day one it would last the whole trip! Well…I was definitely wrong! Friday it poured all day long and my hair was instantly ruined since we forgot to pack an umbrella! Our next stop was Top of The Rock in Rockefeller Center. PRO TIP: Buy your tickets in advance, you never know how the lines are! The downside was it was still raining and super foggy, so you couldn’t see much! We will definitely be back next year because the views and photo opps are amazing! Even though we were all soaking wet, we made the most of it and had a great first day and ended our night at the cutest spot Tanner Smith’s for Moscow mules and sweet potato tots!

Day two was jam packed with so many fun events! We started our morning at Willow & Clay to check out their Spring collection which is AMAZING! I am loving the colors and prints! Our next stop was Time Square! A must see especially being a nyc first timer! We stopped for lunch at Junior’s, which I highly recommend the grilled cheese and cheesecake!

We spent the day walking all over, it was time for a drink! We headed to Pietro NoLita (Pink Place) This was another must see on my list! It is the cutest little spot full of everything pink and their cocktails are delicious!

Our next event was the Good American event at the Shopbop pop up. It was such a fun event! I was able to speak with the co founder Emma Grede, who was so sweet and such an inspiration! This brand is so inspiring and shares such a great message of women empowerment! Did I mention their denim are amazing from the variety of washes to the fit! You bet I left with a new pair of jeans!

We ended the night with a late dinner at NOMO Kitchen which is a dream!! This restaurant has all the vibes and the food is amazing!

Our first event was at Studio 33 Handbags! It was such a fun event filled with mimosas, macaroons, and their new Spring collection! I loved the prints and bright colors! My mom and I had so much fun connecting with the ladies.

We then hopped in an uber and headed over to the Butter supersoft office to shoot a few looks with the girls for their new Fall collection! I can not say enough good things about this brand and their clothes are seriously so soft. I can’t wait to wear when the weather gets cooler!!

After the shoot, we headed over to the Rosé Mansion! Which I HIGHLY recommend you check out when you’re in New York! It’s definitely Instagram worthy and who doesn’t love all things pink and tasting different rosé from around the world!

Do you have to be invited to attend NYFW?

Anyone can attend New York Fashion Week! You don’t have to be personally invited. It’s been a dream of mine since middle school to experience NYFW. My mom and I were talking and thought if I don’t take the leap of faith now, I never will and I’m so happy I did! When it comes to shows and events, there were brands that would send invites, but majority of the work came from me reaching out to brands I’ve worked with in the past or hope to work with in the future letting them know I will be in town and would love to set up a meeting.

How did you plan shows, events, things to do?

I am such a planner! I recommend creating a master calendar/itinerary. 2 months before, I started to research events I wanted to attend and searching for contacts. This is where Google, LinkedIn, and Instagram come into play. You put in what you want out of this experience. That being said, I did all my own research and found contacts and sent out emails. It’s more rewarding to set these meetings up on your own, than it is to ask someone for their contacts that they worked so hard to get. For my first year I made it a goal to attend at least 6 events/meetings while I was there to really make the trip worthwhile and I’m happy with the outcome! Pinterest was another great resource when it came to planning what to do, restaurants to check out, and how to get around the city. When planning photo locations, events, restaurant reservations, your itinerary becomes your best friend. You want to plan things that are all within the same area to get the most out of your day!

Is your whole trip paid for?

Nothing on this trip was paid for! Like I mentioned before, anyone can attend New York Fashion Week if they really want to and I recommend taking that leap of faith and booking that plane ticket if you really want to!! You can reach out to hotels for trade posts or media rates, but with it being so busy this time of year, we wanted to just book a hotel ourselves and know that we had a room available. You can also reach out to PR companies to get on the list for any fashion shows or purchase the tickets yourself if you really want to see a show.

What was your favorite part about your trip?

There were so many favorites to this trip, but I’d have to say the relationships I built with brands and bloggers that I have been following for so long and had the chance to meet in real life! NYFW is an amazing opportunity to grow your personal brand and really gain inspiration from the hustle and bustle of the city! This trip has really motivated me to work harder towards my dream and showed me that anything is possible if you work towards it! I’m so excited to back next year for NYFW 2020!

Any tips for someone planning to attend NYFW next year?
  • Bring comfortable shoes to walk in!! I packed a pair of flats with me everyday to change into after meetings if I knew we were walking a lot!
  • Pack a portable charger! My phone was constantly dying and the charge came in handy when we were gone all day and not stopping back at the hotel.
  • Be open minded. I was so nervous leaving for this trip filling my head with what if’s and doubts, but when you think about it, you have no idea what is going to happen, so why not go into the situation open minded with a positive attitude and see where it takes you!
  • Drink lots of water and pack snacks!! Our days were filled with events and sticking to a schedule it was hard sometimes to fit in breakfast or lunch!
  • Step out of your comfort zone! I am so shy when it comes to meeting new people, but that all goes out the window when you want to build new relationships and grow your brand! I’m so proud of myself for starting conversations and sharing what I’m passionate about!
